"Olbinski's posters are painterly in the manner of the Polish school, whose post-World War II masters invented a graphic style that was inspired by the Early Twentieth century French and German affichistes and the European surrealistic movement but was decidedly a unique art form.  The 'classic' Polish poster was a marriage of fine and applied art which in a nation governed by censorship decrees that severely limited the expressive freedom of independent thinkers...in this sense surrealism played an important communications role as a means to at once bypass literal-minded censors and add a sublimely poetic aura to the work."
